GB Junior Team Selection Press Release
The start of 2015 saw the top surfers in Great Britain over four divisions (U16 / U18 boys and girls) selected as part on the GB Junior Team Squad. The squad was made up of UK surfers based in Cornwall, Devon, Wales, Bournemouth, Newcastle, Jersey, Bali, Portugal, Mexico and South Africa. Each squad member was driven and committed to gain selection for the travelling team of twelve, to represent Great Britain at the ISA Worlds Games held in California.
The competition takes place in Oceanside, California from the 11th – 18th of October. The competition is considered the Olympics of junior surfing and will attract all the best junior surfers from all over the world.
The management team for the 2015 campaign have been hugely impressed by each squad members commitment to both training camps and competitions, UK and internationally. We feel that all athletes have made noticeable improvements both in and out of the water, whilst gaining vital knowledge from the trained professionals involved in the 2015 programme.
The selection process for the 2015 ISA World Games travelling team has been highly competitive, both for the UK surfers and the UK surfers based internationally. The selection committee has taken into consideration the athletes performances nationally and internationally at competitions. They have in addition to this, analysed performances in different fitness tests, pool training sessions and heat drills at the four training camps. The selection committee has also taken into consideration an athlete non-surfing traits as part of selection in 2015, thus highlighting the importance of team harmony and cohesion when travelling to the ISA World Games.
The first of four training camps was held in Newquay Saturday 23rd May – Monday 25th May. Big thanks must go to Craig and the team at Ocean Surf Lodge, Newquay for all their efforts in hosting the group and keeping us warm and fed throughout the weekend.
The second of four training camps was held in Bude Friday 26th June – Sunday 28th June. Big thanks must go to the team at Northshore Backpackers and Trelawney Tea Rooms, Bude for all their efforts in accommodating the group and providing everything the group required throughout the weekend.
The third of four training camps was held in Croyde Friday 24th July – Monday 27th July. Big thanks must go to the team at Cherry Tree Campsite, Croyde for all their efforts in accommodating the group and special mentions to Croyde Surf Club for providing everything the group required throughout the weekend and Mike Cotton and the team at Baggies lodge for their kind hospitality during some monsoon like conditions in North Devon.
The fourth of four training camps was held in Newquay Friday 21st August – Sunday 23rd August. Big thanks must go to the team at MOR Lodge, Newquay for all their efforts in accommodating the group and providing everything the group required throughout the weekend.
2015 campaign selection committee, taking into consideration the four training camps and relevant competition results are proud to announce the following squad members have been selected to represent Great Britain at the upcoming ISA World Surfing Games.

Congratulations must go to the selected twelve surfers who are extremely proud and honored to represent Great Britain at the ISA World Games in 2015. The team will now be upping their training to ensure that Great Britain achieves it’s highest ever placing at the event.
Training will be ongoing with all squad members to ensure selection for future international competitions will be as competitive as the ISA World Games in 2015.

Surfing in Great Britain is going from strength to strength and it’s the athletes and individuals behind the scenes who are rarely appreciated to make these opportunities possible.
