Team GB Selection process for the 2015 World Masters Surfing Championships

Open_Ceremony_Rommel_Gonzales_1061Following a consultation and an open application process for management of the Team GB masters to attend the 2015 World Masters Surfing Championships to be held in Lanzarote, Canary Islands, Spain; Surfing GB can now confirm the selection and management process.

The 2015 British National Surf Championships supported by Korev to be held at Croyde Bay on September 26th & 27th will be used as the stand alone selection event. Representation is available in the following divisions and the event will now specifically cater for these as well as all other divisions, the places will be awarded to the highest placed finishers in the respective divisions. Should a surfer decline their spot in entry to the event the next placed finisher will be offered it.

  • 2 Masters (over 35)
  • 2 Grand Masters (over 40)
  • 2 Kahunas (over 45)
  • 1 Grand Kahuna (over 50)
  • 1 Women’s Master (over 35)

Surfers who earn entry into the 2015 WMSC will self-fund and organise their attendance. Entry will be made through Surfing GB to the ISA and surfers will be representing Team GB.

*Ages are taken from January 1, 2015. A Master surfer must be 35 years or older on January 1, 2015 to compete in this year’s event.

Surfing GB has paid the affiliation fee and all other costs associated with the event will be the responsibility of the attending athletes. Surfing GB will provide full kit, marketing and operational support.

The late selection is associated with a congestive competition schedule leaving unavailable alternative dates, venues, and qualified judges, whilst the finance could also not be sourced to fund an individual event. However, the ISA have now granted GB athletes an extension on entry should the British Nationals be postponed for any reason and therefore miss the 30 day minimum entry deadline, we would like to thank the ISA for this flexibility.

The British Nationals will now begin its journey as an event that is held at new a location every year and is to travel around the UK, we look forward to welcoming you and all surfers to Croyde in September, entry for the event will open approximately 4 weeks in advance.

In the meantime, please contact info@surfinggb.com with any queries.
