Surfing GB looks for the ultimate summer selfie

Members of the UK’s designated national governing body for surfing visited St Austell Brewery  to celebrate the South West grass roots surf scene and to launch a challenge to find the ultimate summer selfie.

Korev Surf Truck

St Austell Brewery recently announced the new three-year partnership which sees Korev become the official beer of British surfing. Nick Rees, Surfing GB Operations Manager and Surfing GB’s staff were invited along with representatives from St Ives Surf School, Saints Boardriders (St Ives Surf Club), Surfing Croyde Bay and the Lyndon Wake Surf School with owner and Rip Curl Pro rider Lyndon Wake on a tour of the Brewery to celebrate all their work.

Nick Rees Surfing GB Operations Manager said: “We have come to the Brewery with some of the leading lights in grass roots surfing in the Westcountry to show them around and celebrate the great work that they do in the community. The support of St Austell Brewery is invaluable to Surfing GB and we’re really looking forward to seeing all the amazing selfies over the coming months; it’s going to be a great summer of events.

“With Korev supporting Surfing GB and its work with Surf Clubs and Surf Schools we are looking forward to the surfers of the UK showing their love for the Cornish lager.”

Korev will be attending a host of events this summer, including Tunes on the Dunes, Fistral Night Surf, Electric Beach and the Little Orchard festivals, and are ready to find the very best selfie from an event-packed summer.

There’s a host of fabulous Korev prizes on offer and one lucky snapper will win a unique opportunity to make their very own customised surfboard thanks to the first prize of a Surfboard Shaping holiday in Cornwall – recently voted in the Sunday Times Top 100 Holidays in the World.

Korev Selfie

Festival goers and Korev fans can post their Korev-inspired selfies on Twitter, Facebook, Youtube or Instagram using the hashtag #korevpeople. Each week, the best entries will win prizes including Korev cans, beanies, selfie sticks, flip flops and fleeces. These winners will then be shortlisted with a chance of winning the overall Surfboard Shaping holiday.

Jeremy Mitchell, St Austell Brewery Marketing and Communications Director, said: “We’re really excited to be involved with Surfing GB and with so many music and surf events throughout the summer. We will have our own band of #korevpeople at all our events handing out selfie sticks from our Korev truck so that revelers can get involved and be in with a chance of winning some great prizes and around 400 pubs across the South West will also be encouraging their customers to take part.”

Through the sponsorship, St Austell Brewery is supporting Surfing GB in its objective to provide membership to surfers, surf clubs and surf schools and to ensure that surfing is being practiced in a safe and fun environment for everyone to enjoy. The Korev sponsorship will also form a key part of Surfing GB competitions, which aim to support and improve performance, enabling British surfing and surfers to remain internationally competitive.

Korev will also now enjoy inclusion throughout Surfing GB operations as well as being named as the supporting sponsor for the 2015 Interclub and National Surfing Championships. Korev Lager joins a well-established family of Surfing GB sponsors in Surfdome.com, Acer Technologies and the long standing Aquajuice Soft Drink.

Korev – the traditional Cornish word for beer – was launched in summer 2010 in a 500ml bottle and on draught in 2011 and has fast become one of the Brewery’s leading brands. It followed a wait of almost 160 years for St Austell to produce its first premium quality Cornish lager. Korev is brewed to authentic methods over 25 days using only natural ingredients and has established a loyal following for its clean, crisp taste.
