Massive congratulations to Team GB Junior Team Captain Luke Dillon who did us Brits proud making the Quarter finals of the Sopelana Pro Junior in Spain at the weekend. An impressive performance saw Luke win his round 2 heat with 12.50, the 4th highest combo of the day. He then surfed really smart progressing through rounds 3 & 4 with combo scores over 10 pts .In round 4 ,Luke knocked out Vasco Ribeiro who was the European Pro Junior tour leader. Vasco had also just reached the last eight of the mens 6 star prime Billabong J Bay just a couple of weeks ago, so this was a huge scalp for Luke who is doing 3 events in Europe for the first time. Luke lost in the quarters to Vicente Romero who went on to win the event & now leads the tour. Fellow Brit Luis Eyre also made the quarter finals continuing his good form .
“I felt really good going into the comp, I have been staying at the Quiksilver House in Hossegor & getting plenty of time in the water so was really focussed..Matt Adams from Adams Surfboards has shaped me a 5-7″ Tonka for the Pro Juniors & it went sick in these waves which were 2-3 foot and a bit mushy. Spencer Hargraves who is my Quiksilver team manager drove me & Tom Good down from Newquay a couple of weeks ago so we had a good Brit presence for the comp which helps. I am so happy making the Quarters & just want to keep pushing myself to new goals..I have just found out i am in the Boardmasters 6* event & would love to make everybody who has supported me proud. Getting through round 4 was really tough & i just edged out Vasco by .10 . He’s a sick surfer who took it to the men at J Bay making the last 8 a couple of weeks ago so it looks like I’m going in the right direction with my training. Right now I am getting ready to travel to Galicia for the 2* Pro Junior which starts thurs & the chart looks pretty good for waves. Thanks to my sponsors Quiksilver, DC, Adams Surfboards & Moscova for their support”
