Invitation to surf schools and interested parties

With the re-energisation of Surfing GB, comes the obligation to ensure that the organisation which will become the National Governing Body for surfing is able to represent, motivate and play a leading role in all aspects of surfing in Great Britain.
At the outset, it is important to consider and support surf schools to ensure that the key role they play in introducing new participants follows common shared standards and facilitates rapid, enjoyable and safe learning. The unclear messages of the past 18 months have meant that many schools have had to create their own schemes or adopt different ones to those they had been using.
It is now time to clarify the situation and formulate an acceptable, agreed and workable position with regard to appropriate accreditation, monitoring and practice. This position should allow for ongoing work and development of an approach to coaching which will embrace and acknowledge existing coaching experience.
The Steering Group and Directors of Surfing GB would like to hold a meeting of surf school operators and other interested parties to establish a working statement and development process to be adopted by Surfing GB. The meeting will take place on either Friday 16th March, in Exeter (exact venue to be confirmed later). A draft agenda will issued in advance.
This meeting will help create a very significant part of the structure which will underpin Surfing GB, enabling it to play its proper role in surfing in Great Britain.
